Overview
Deakin University was established in 1974. It has four modern campuses located in the vicinity of Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road: one in metropolitan Melbourne, two in the bayside town of Geelong, and one in the picturesque regional seaside centre of Warrnambool. These campuses provide students and researchers with access to the latest industry-standard facilities such as Deakin’s Motion.Lab at the Melbourne Campus and the Geelong Technology Precinct at the Geelong Campus, Waurn Ponds.
Deakin University has a strong international focus: around 7,900 (approximately 19%) of its 42,000 student body are from over 60 countries worldwide. Hundreds of Deakin University’s students and staff travel overseas every year to participate in work placements, exchanges, study tours, volunteering and activities under Deakin’s landmark Global Citizenship Program.

Entry requirements – undergraduate
There are many ways for you to meet the eligibility requirements for entry into an undergraduate course at Deakin. Each course has minimum eligibility requirements and some courses have additional requirements.
Minimum eligibility for admission
- School leavers should have completed Year 12 or equivalent with an ATAR of at least 50 and a study score of at least 20 in VCE English units 3 and 4 or 25 in English as a Second Language.
- ESL speakers should satisfy the English language requirements as detailed in the Admission procedure.
- Non-school leavers should have completed or partially completed a higher education course at an approved university, a Vocational Education and Training (VET) or Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) qualification or an Associate Degree.
- Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) applicants should meet one of the criteria for the Deakin Access and Equity Program (i.e. mature-age, refugee, disability, medical condition, rural or regional, non-English-speaking background, under-represented school and others).

Deakin has two types of honours degrees: research and on-course. Honours can lead to further research or improve your career prospects.
Research honours
You apply for research honours via the Course and Scholarship Applicant Portal. Honours applications from graduates from other universities are welcome.

How to apply
Applications for postgraduate courses are made via Deakin’s Applicant Portal. With three intakes each year, there are always options to apply for postgraduate study and commence your course in Trimester 1, 2 or 3.
Credit for prior learning
If you have previously studied at a tertiary institution in Australia or overseas, or you have relevant work experience, you can apply to have these studies considered for credit towards your Deakin course. Visit the Credit for prior learning page.

Entry requirements – postgraduate
There are many ways for you to meet the eligibility requirements for entry into a postgraduate course at Deakin. Each course has minimum eligibility requirements and some courses have additional requirements.
Minimum eligibility requirements
Applicants for postgraduate studies should:
- have successfully completed a relevant tertiary program (no less than three years of full-time study at a university or other approved education institution)
or
- have academic qualifications or professional experience considered to be the equivalent of a relevant tertiary program.
You must also satisfy the English language requirements as detailed in the Word document available in Schedule A of the admission procedure.
Specific entry requirements
Applicants also need to meet their chosen course’s specific entry requirements, as listed on the course summary page via Find a course, or in the Course and Scholarship Applicant Portal.
These may involve completing an information form specific to a course, attending an interview or providing a resume.
Documentation required during application
If you are required to provide additional documentation to support your application, not supplying these documents at the point of application may result in a delay in the consideration of your application.
When applying through the Applicant Portal, you’ll be advised when these documents are required. They can be uploaded at the end of the application process (maximum file size is 2MB).
